Student Art Show – Award Presentation
March 21 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT
The Student Art Exhibit Program at the U.S. Department of Education, under the direction of the Office of Communications and Outreach, is devoted to displaying rotating artwork year-round created by students participating in annual, nation-wide arts competitions and programs through national and international organizations that support the arts.
Established in 2004, the Department’s Student Art Exhibit Program has a longstanding tradition of partnering with these arts organizations, and previously with schools, to plan student art exhibits and present an ongoing schedule of exhibits by students from around the nation and across the world.
Partner organizations and past exhibits have included the Association of Art Museum Directors: Museum pARTners in Learning, the National PTA Reflections Student Art Awards Program and Showcase, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Exhibit featuring the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers Art.Write.Now.D.C. Showcase, the Military Child Education Coalition Call for the Arts (representing each branch of military service), the VSA International Art Program for Children with Disabilities, and the Youngarts’ National Arts Competition.
Through its Student Art Exhibit Program, the Department allows organizations to display creative and award-winning artwork from students in a highly public place and provides a forum to showcase emerging and established student artistic talent through exhibit openings and ribbon cuttings that foster meaningful dialogue among student artists, educators and the wider arts community. The Program features the annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards winners whose works are exhibited in the Department’s headquarters lobby for one year beginning every school year, as well as rotating exhibits every few months in the Department’s LBJ Auditorium.
In addition to the opening events, the Department receives visitors for the duration of the exhibits during normal business hours.
